Aluminium handrail in the middle of Vienna

Safety first thanks to MEVACO perforated sheets and profile edging

Everyone, from Robert Stolz to Falco, agrees: "Wien, Wien, nur du allein sollst stets die Stadt meiner Träume sein!" [Vienna, City of my Dreams] and "Hello, hello, Vienna calling" they used to sing. Yes, Vienna is calling. And Vienna gives an opportunity to dream - not just to composers and poets but also to architects and skilful and imaginative craftsmen. Attila Kocsi from Zalaegerszeg in Hungary could sing a song about this too. Jobs from the Austrian capital feature frequently in his order books. He had been working with MEVACO aluminium perforated sheets and profile edgings in his last project. They were processed into rails at new apartments later on.

Perforated sheet railings for spacious housing complexes

18 luxurious apartments with loft extensions on seven floors and a living area of 1,060 m² were created in order to fill an empty area in Vienna. As soon as we got the contract, we installed 250 running metres of MEVACO perforated sheet railings as well as perforated sheet partition walls."

MEVACO as a partner for swift implementation

"We discussed the respective ideas and visions in the planning phase with the client and the architect. We always have the MEVACO catalogue as well as some samples with us", states the craftsman, explaining his approach. "Following completion of the structural design we ordered the material from MEVACO. When the new construction reached the stage when we could start, we took measurements on site and ordered the material from MEVACO. On Sperrgasse we processed aluminium perforated sheets 3.0 mm R15 M30 and R15 U36,38 with powder-coated finish and the matching profile edging GEV 30x30x3 stainless steel 1.5 mm. Then we fully assembled everything on the construction site."

Long-standing relationship between MEVACO and craftsman

The craftsman and MEVACO got to know each other at a trade fair. "A lot has changed since then", says Attila Kocsi. "Today the online search is available as well as the option to get in touch with MEVACO specialists at any time. Additionally, fast delivery is very important to me because everything must be quicker than before." Attila Kocsi and his team are eager to complete their next job with the help of MEVACO.

Craftsmen benefit from construction boom

Full order books indicate that the manufacture of perforated sheet railing constructions is becoming increasingly important for larger construction projects. Accordingly, Attila Kocsi set up his own workshop MA-SZIN Kft. "On the one hand we have the ironworker's workshop", he says, "and on the other the powder-coating facility." Attila Kocsi manufactures pretty much everything that can be made of steel in his workshop: "From decorative wrought-iron gates to modern glass railings. Spare parts for high-quality industrial machines or shelf systems for fashion stores - there is nothing that you cannot get from us. Everything is produced individually and if necessary powder-coated in-house." MEVACO is the right partner precisely because of this individuality of its customers and projects: "Here I get everything that I need – and at quite short notice."

Tip: Don't cut the profile edging too short

Apart from technical challenges, the craftsman also has to worry about constantly changing regulations. "There is always something new", says Attila Kocsi. "Whether it concerns safety regulations, standards or static regulations." He relies on his extensive experience in the skilled trade sector. "I remember our first test many years ago, fitting a perforated sheet railing outdoors", he looks back. "We learned the hard way. We gave steel perforated sheet a goal, then fitted profile edging and galvanised everything. What we actually produced was deformed areas with clogged holes. The profiles were cut too tight, meaning the sheets had no space to move. Since then we've advising everybody on aluminium or stainless perforated sheets for outdoor areas, best with powder-coated finish - and of course not to cut the profile edging too tight."
