“The innovator for the art of relaxation”: this is the motto of the Italian upholstered bed design company TWILS. The following was the assignment, which was given to the architect Marzio Piaser: design an innovative company headquarters in which the art of relaxation is brought to bear. A place where day can become night and vice versa.
At TWILS, the name is part of the programme. It stands for the initial letters of the first names of the Carnieletto siblings Tiziano, Wilma, Luisella and Simone. The company philosophy also has that personal touch. From this was derived the wish for a location where company guests could be received like family friends. Marzio Piaser had an idea in this connection. He converted a residential home into an enclosed cube-shaped company headquarters in which, similar to the corporate identity of TWILS, two colours dominate, namely black and white.
“The association between day and night is important to us”, recounts Marzio Piaser, whose work is inspired by Le Corbusier and the Viennese secessionist Otto Wagner. “The building appears dark during the day. At night it lights up when the lights are on inside the building. Perforated sheeting is the ideal material for achieving this effect.”
Marzio Piaser covered the windows of the cube with MEVACO perforated sheeting. “The CREATIV LINE perforation has a robust effect”, according to the architect. “However, simply wonderful fragile light effects are produced inside the building as soon as the sun shines.” In addition to the design aspect, Marzio Piaser also highly regards perforated sheeting in terms of its function. “I can highly recommend the material for sun and burglary protection”, he says. “Perforated sheeting is a decorative element with multiple functions.”
In the building, the guests find, in addition to the exhibition area, a reception area with a large table at which, similar to in any Italian family, happy hours can be spent dining. There is thus no doubt that the foreign guests of TWILS will also be able to experience their Italian moments. Precisely in line with what the innovator for the art of relaxation had in mind for its visitors. Day in, day out.
