MEVACO has expanded its product range, since the start of the year, to include the new expanded metal product line as its second main product. In addition to perforated sheeting, the company now also manufactures and supplies its own expanded metal.
The application options for perforated sheeting and the diverse perforated sheet variants of MEVACO are well known. Thanks to the expanded metals, which are produced via the newly installed expanded metal machine in the Schlierbach production facility, there are now even more options available in the most differing of sectors and areas for the metal processing trades and architects. Expanded metal is a relatively new product; it has been used in recent years as a transparent closure in the case of façades, as railing fillings and also as a solution for privacy and sun protection.
Expanded metal - an open, yet secure metal skin
The big advantage of expanded metal is that there is no material loss as arises in the case of perforated sheeting due to punching. Depending on the mesh, only 20 to 70% of the raw material, based on the finished length, must be used. At MEVACO, the openings, designated as meshes, in expanded metal have a maximum mesh length of 200 mm and a mesh width of 55 mm. The smallest mesh has a mesh length of 6 mm and a mesh width of 4 mm. The available selection options for the bridge widths and thicknesses are also decisive for the expanded metal design. Ductile materials must be used for the production of expanded metal.
Ductility is the material property, which allows it to plastically deform in the case of overloading before it breaks. Because all the raw materials, which MEVACO offers for perforated sheeting, have these properties, the complete raw material range (steel, aluminium, stainless steel, copper, titanium zinc, sendzimir galvanised) can also be used for expanded metal.
